چکیده

It is pointed out that infants’ gaze alternation, which is a basis of social communication, is related to a developmental process of an intentional agency. The intentional agency is defined as an act composed of a desired goal and a means. It is mentioned that the infants understand others’ intentions based on the intentional agency. In this paper, in order to study an elementaly developmental process of the intentional agency, we constructed a computational model which acquires gaze orientation as a means by the reinforcement learning and gaze alternation between a caregiver and objects as a goal through memorizing sensory states. In the developmental construction of the model, we confirmed that two functions, discrimination and association, play an important role. The former discriminates between the caregiver and the objects in stimuli. The latter associates the caregiver with the objects by storing the relations between sensory states. Comparing infants’ intentional agency with our constructed model, we argue that a nested structure, in which the gaze alternation composed of a goal and a means is utilized as a means to achieve another goal, is an important feature in the developmental process of the intentional agency.

Elementary Developmental Process of Intentional Agency: Artificial Construction of Gaze Alternation in Communicative Eye Gaze by Infants

Intentional agency is defined as an act with a desired goal and a means. It has been pointed out that infants understand others’ intentions based on intentional agency. Developmental Construction of Intentional Agency in Communicative Eye Gaze

In the communicative eye gaze such as joint visual attention and gaze alternation, the importance of intentional agency is pointed out. Namely, infants understand others’ intentions and also intentionally gaze at others’ gazing points. In this paper, for investigating the development of the intentional agency that the infant separates desired goals from the actions, we constructed a computation...

Developmental Construction of Infant’s Joint Visual Attention as Understanding Intentionality

Joint visual attention is thought of as a basis of infant’s communication ability. The importance of subjectivity of the joint attention is pointed out. Namely, infants understand others’ intentions and subjectively gaze at the others’ gazing points. In this paper, for understanding the subjective aspect of the behavior, we constructed a computational model with constructive approach. The model...

The Metaphor of Vision and the Construction of Sexist-Norms in Western Metaphysics

Current feminisms have emphasized the systematic nature of women’s oppression. Feminist scholars like Luce Irigaray insist that woman’s difference and otherness is a matter of male-dominated institutional definition: because the woman is theoretically subordinated to the concept of masculinity, she is seen and objectified by the man as his opposite, described as an absence, a lack, and, most no...

Twelve-month-olds' vocal production during pointing in naturalistic interactions: sensitivity to parents' attention and responses.

There have been many rich, naturalistic studies documenting prelinguistic communicative abilities that suggest that the ntegration of alternating eye gaze, vocal behaviors, and nonverbal gestures are indicative of intentional communication (e.g., ates, Camaioni, & Volterra, 1975; Bates, Benigni, Bretherton, Camaioni, & Volterra, 1979; Dore, 1974; Ninio & Bruner, 1978; revarthen & Hubley, 1978)....
